The Hebron governor and other senior Palestinian Authority officials attended a ceremony marking “Palestinian Flag Day” at a school in Dura in the Palestinian Authority, whose walls display Abu Sharar’s image alongside an RPG and a map of “Greater Palestine” that effectively erases Israel from the map.
On September 30, a ceremony marking “Palestinian Flag Day,” observed by the Palestinian Authority, took place in Dura, near Hebron. The event was held at a school named after Majid Abu Sharar and attended by senior Palestinian Authority officials, including its Hebron governor, Khaled Dudin.
A wall at the school displays an image of terrorist Majid Abu Sharar alongside an RPG and a drawing of a child holding a knife, symbolizing the “armed struggle” against Israel. Beside it is a map of “Greater Palestine,” encompassing the territory of the State of Israel and effectively erasing its existence from the map.
Abu Sharar (1936–1981), a native of Dura, was an Arab writer, journalist, and politician who also trained, organized, and directed terrorist guerrilla cells. His activities included planning and directing terrorist operations alongside Khalil al-Wazir, one of the founders of the Fatah terrorist organization, and others. Abu Sharar advocated non-recognition of Israel and opposed negotiations with it.
On October 9, 1981, Abu Sharar was eliminated by an explosive device planted beneath his bed at the Flora Hotel in Rome while attending an international “solidarity” conference.
Commemorating him in the school’s name and displaying his image alongside weapons and a map denying Israel’s existence officially incorporates the legacy of Arab terrorism into the Palestinian Authority’s educational environment. Unsurprisingly, this was precisely the school that senior PA officials chose for their Flag Day event.
